Dodge Hamtramck Plant Main Building #2 Description and Photos

The east wing of the Machine Shop is virtually Identical to the west wing. It was built in 1910, designed by Albert Kahn, and is a four-story reinforced concrete structure, with a flat roof, steel sash, and ten-sided flared columns supporting the floors. This rectangular building is 65 feet wide and 405 feet long. The architectual firm of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls designed a steel and glass penthouse 200 feet long,built in 1920 to house an enamelling room. At the time the plant closed in 1980, the final body drop for one of the assembly lines was located on the second and third stories of this building.
